It is important to understand that ENGworks is a brand shared by 2 separate and very different operating companies, one based solely in the U.S. and the other in U.S./Argentina. Each ‘franchise’ operates in it own way to bring unique skills and capabilities to their core market. Let me bring some historical context to how this all came about and hopefully illustrate the differences between the two franchises.
In 1989, I started the business as SimplyCAD, from my dorm room at the University of Illinois Chicago, to bring much needed technology solutions to the AEC/O industry. In 2002, we changed the Company name to CADworks in an effort to rebrand and add additional layers to the services we provided. In 2005, the modeling and coordination industry was emerging in California, so CADworks established a presence there. We became the first U.S. based BIM service company to use CADmep in 2008 and have since completed tens of millions of dollars of fabrication work. In 2007 we were certified as a Premier Provider for Autodesk Seek to support the creation of high quality RevitMEP content for Building Product Manufacturers, a service that still represents a significant portion of our business.
As the AEC industry was coming out of the global recession in 2012, I believed in the idea that creating a global presence would strengthen our reach to clients outside of the United States, so CADworks and ENGstudios (U.S./Argentina) agreed to bring our respective businesses together under a new banner, ENGworks. Both companies continued to serve their core markets but the vision of each franchise sharing resources across global projects was just too difficult to attain. In 2014, we agreed to operate independently but continue to share the same brand identity, ENGworks.
As time has passed, I’ve become very much aware of the frustration experienced as a result of brand confusion and the lack of clarity as to which franchise is delivering on projects and in which entity carries certain specialized skills. To make this absolutely clear to the market going forward, I have renamed my entity ENGworks Global. The domain names of the two companies are now different, our teams are different, our credentials are different, and our names are different!
ENGworksGlobal.com continues to be based in Chicago as it has been since I created it back in 1989. In our 30+ years as a thriving company, we have executed 100% of our U.S. work with highly skilled U.S. professionals. We now have global personnel and global partners to execute work in other regions with the same quality standards we’ve established in Chicago. We are proudly known as the largest MEP content builder in the world and considered the best-of-breed with Building Product Manufacturers around the world.
The reason I started this business in 1989 was to push technology into the AEC/O Industry, always striving to make it better, and to bring new and exiting productivity gains to the industry – and we continue to be driven by that passion today! The eVolve MEP partnership is an exciting step forward as it combines our knowledge and experience to drive long overdue standards to encourage Manufacturers to invest in fabrication content and bring interoperability to users globally.
If you have had a poor experience with ENGworks in the past or if you would like to have a conversation in order to better understand our business structure, I am very open to listening and explaining. Your feedback will help us to improve and communicate the unique skills and talents of each operating unit better, and ensure that there is clarity as to which ENGworks franchise has been involved in your particular experience.
